Coorparoo too good for Devils in last Pre-Season hit out

Last week we played the 2016 QAFA North premiers and this week it was the QAFA South premiers. Played on the back oval at Coorparoo, it doesn’t help away teams, especially with the setting sun beaming directly down the ground. The 10 goal loss equals the result of our only game against Coorparoo last year.

The Devils did try a few positional changes and had a chance to look at Dylan Powell, Rory Molan and Kristian Higgs in their first games for the seniors. Overall, the Devils were out played in most aspects of the game. Coorparoo played and executed our game plan to perfection. From that perspective, every player should now understand what is required to execute it at the highest level.

The positive that we all need to take away is that whilst we were being outplayed, just before half time, we were right in the game. Missed opportunities were quickly capitalised on by Coorparoo with 2 late goals to take in a 27pt lead into half time. Unfortunately we lost 2 tall players in the first 35 mins, which made the task of winning that so much tougher.

We now have just 4 training sessions before our first game against Springwood on the 31st March at home. Everyone needs to concentrate on the basics because under pressure, we made far too many simple skill and decision making errors.

This game was a reminder that there is still plenty to do. Our depth means there is pressure on the playing group to improve. The Devils will have a quality team going into round one. We have the personnel and game plan to start the season with a win. Now we have to execute.

Goals: Boyd 2, Middleton, Powell, Yorston, Redsell
