YERONGA FOOTBALL CLUB Following consecutive Premierships in 2006 and 2007, Season 2008 was a challenging year for the Club. We pushed all clubs, but could not bridge the gap to achieve an unprecedented third Premiership. The opportunity was close, but slipped from our grasp. Despite recent success at Yeronga, no club can afford to rest on their laurels, so that is why we are always seeking new players to join our group. 2009 will bring a new set of challenges for the Club and our teams - so we are calling all players interested in being a part of Yeronga to make contact with us now. We are very encouraged that a large percentage of our players from this season have already committed themselves to be a part of our journey through 2009. But we are also looking for new players, quality people, to join the group and maintain the success we have attained over the past four seasons. Being an inner-city club, Yeronga has a great tradition of attracting "walk-in" players, some who have gone on to be great players for the Club over long periods of time. Because of our close proximity to the CBD, we are a convenient option for many players looking for a new home in Brisbane. We are very serious about our games in all grades - but we also appreciate the importance of the social side of football. Yeronga offers more than just a good brand of football - it also provides a great social connection for players, especially newcomers to Queensland. In 2009, we will field the Seniors and Reserves as normal - but also aim to continue our Thirds AND under 18s teams. We are looking for players of all experience and background, from ex-AFL veterans to Australian Football novices - no matter whether you are coming of an AFL list, or have not played for a few years (or ever), or if work commitments are making you reluctant about being involved in a higher level club, contact us now to let us know your interest. Of course, with starting an Under 18s side this year, we will especially be looking for any young players keen on getting involved with a great Club. We have a solid group of players ready to form a team in 2009, so we are looking to add to that group with any young blokes who are eager to take up our great code of football. If you are looking for an Under 18s team, or looking to take up the sport, make contact with us now to find out more information. One of the great aspects of Yeronga is that there are no cliques - all players, through all grades, are valuable and respected members and contributors to the overall good of the Club. We aim to foster a positive atmosphere where everyone is encouraged to be involved. We have provided a new home for ex-AFL players, we have provided a first club for people learning the game - the rewarding part is seeing everyone work together for the good of each team and the good of the Club. And being a part of our football community is more than just three hours on a Saturday - becoming a part of Yeronga brings you into a huge social network with a Club that has been on the scene in Brisbane for almost 100 years. Even if you are no longer interested in playing, but still wish to be part of the Yeronga effort, there are several ways you can help: become a volunteer for the various tasks to be completed on game day; encourage friends, family, or colleagues to play for Yeronga; and visit the Club as often as possible. Every little bit helps as it builds the spirit and excitement within the Club. Now is the time to act. If you are interested in being a player with Yeronga in 2009, no matter which grade, Seniors, Reserves, Thirds, or Under 18s, contact us now. We are keen to hear from you and know more about your background. Send a message to devils@YerongaFC.com.au - all messages will receive a response. Get with the Devils in 2009! Premiers in 2006 and 2007 - we will always look to improve further.
