7-A-SIDE FOOTBALL & TWENTY20 CRICKET

The Club is always open for business throughout the year. All players, members, and visitors are encouraged to attend the Club regularly and support all our ventures.

Over Summer, Senior Coach, Tom Corless, has again organised several events to keep interest and interaction happening at Cansdale Street.

Yeronga has been the pioneers of Nine-A-Side football over Summer with games starting up between our Club and Mt Gravatt back in 1987. This year, the tradition continued. Over Summer, Tom repeated the Seven-A-Side competition format. Tom was able to obtain nominations for about twenty teams for the event again this year. It is social football, played for the thrill of the skill and the social connection, with NO sheep station prize at the end. It is a fantastic, innovative brand of football that helps keep your sporting fitness and enjoyment going on Thursday evenings.

A further small competition will be organised for February 2009. If you are not part of a team, that's okay - you can still be involved. Just let us know that you would like to have a run, and we can help find a team for you to join. Don't be shy - the only person who will miss out will be YOU.

Also, last year, Tom started a Twenty-20 cricket competition based at the Club. Blokes who had not played cricket for years, and wanted to keep active in a not-too-serious event, joined in last Summer and had an excellent time. This year, Tom increased the number of teams participating. It is ten players per team, twenty overs each (obviously), and a great way to keep active over a weekend in a game that does not take all day. You can get your cricket match in, and still find plenty of time to enjoy a refreshing beverage after the game. And you generally only play every second week.

The competition is reaching the closing stages for another year, but we are always looking for extra players (as there are often some people unavailable). If you would like to be a part of the Twenty-20 cricket competition, let us know. We can help you find a team.

But most of all, keep supporting your Club over Summer. The success of our Club will always depend on the continued support of all our players, members, and visitors. And the more of you regularly there, the better the atmosphere for everyone.
